ORTHOPTERA RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

Klaus Riede

I studied Orthoptera in South America and Malaysia, focussing on behaviour, ecology and acoustic communication. The species-rich tropical forests where I did my field work harbour numerous unknown species. Many species were undescribed, some of them have been described by colleagues (eg Sigrid Ingrisch 1998, others are still waiting for their description. Most of my collection is available at the Paris Natural History Museum (Entomology). To see some pictures, visit the AMAZON GRASSHOPPER SLIDE SHOW
Ongoing activities:

DORSA: Deutsche Orthopterensammlungen - German Orthoptera collections
(German Orthoptera collections with link to the global species database 'Orthoptera Species File' (OSF)
and development of a specimen based sound library with a tool for automatic sound identification).
