“Historic distribution, ecology and reasons for decline are similar to the Addax (see Fig. A2.5). The subspecies G. d. mhorr occurred at the atlantic coast, and might still exist in the wild at the National Park Banc d`Arguin (Mauritania). An important ex situ stock is raised in captivity at the Almeria Animal Husbandry Center, from where some animals were introduced into Bou-Hedma National Park, Tunisia (Abaigar et al. 1997). Further reintroductions were made in Senegal (Cano 1993) and Morocco (Wiesner & Müller 1998). A network of protected areas is established within the framework of the Sahelo-Saharan Antilope Action Plan (UNEP-CMS 1999).”
