Tringa melanoleuca (Gmelin, 1789) Family: sandpipers, snipes Order: Charadriiformes print version
Greater yellowlegs Grand Chevalier Archibebe patigualdo grande Großer Gelbschenkel
Migration: intercontinental

Verbreitungskarte von Tringa melanoleuca Migration through interior North America and along coasts, on both passages. Few birds overfly W Atlantic between Canadian Maritime Province and Lesser Antilles, but most birds on E coast pass along Atlantic seaboard; or from Florida across Great Antilles to South America. Spring return flight presumably non-stop from the Guianas to USA, some via Lesser Antilles, then majority across C North America and up Atlantic coast. Largest winter number recorded in Surinam and, to lesser extent, in Guyana and French Guiana. Possibly faithful to wintering sites. Many non-breeders, presumably immatures, remain S all year.   (del Hoyo J, Elliott A, Sargatal J (eds), 1996)
