Migratory, winters well S of breeding range. Leaves breeding areas from late Aug, sometimes not until Oct-Nov;
a few may remain in N parts. Winter range from S & SE USA to Central America (S to Costa Rica, more rarely
to W Panama), including all of West Indies; in Mexico mainly S & E from E Chihuahua and S Sinaloa. Females
migrate farther S than males. N migration from Mar, arrival at breeding grounds from late Apr to May; males
return earlier than females. Most passage is through C & E parts of North America, but numerous records also
from W; vagrants recorded in Netherlands Antilles, and three times in British Is. (del Hoyo J,
