Mainly sedentary. Apparently regular seasonal movements recorded in some areas, e.g. in parts of Brazil and
Buenos Aires areas, Argentina; regarded as non-breeding migrant to S Rio Negro and N Chubut, C Argentina.
Makes short distance movements in response to local conditions of drought or flooding, abandoning areas as
soon as they become too dry. Largely solitary or in pairs, but outside breeding season may form small, dispersed
