Verbreitungskarte von Rallus limicola Most North American populations migratory. Migrants arrive on breeding grounds in USA Mar-May, most in Apr; arrivals possibly influenced by weather and vegetation development; males arrive first on breeding grounds. Departs Aug-Nov, timing possibly influenced by weather conditions; birds congregate at larger marshes prior to autumn migration. Wintering birds present in Mexico late Aug to Apr. Migrates at night, at low altitudes; sometimes strikes towers, telephone lines or wire fences.
