Probably an intra-African migrant that moves N after breeding. In Nigeria, undertakes seasonal movements, but not well understood; recorded in Ghana from Dec to mid-May; moves N in Sudan to breed before rainy season. In E Africa, movements not understood, but may include non-breeding visitors to Kenya from S tropics, mostly Dec-May; in Zaire, absent May-Jul in NE, present in S in dry season May-Nov, with marked passage in Apr and May. Present in Botswana Sept-Apr; influx to E Botswana Jan-Mar 1994, following wet summer. Influx to Zimbabwe between Apr and Jun after rains. Overwinters locally in South Africa. Sometimes in small parties, e.g. 10 together in Gambia in Dec 1975.   (del Hoyo J, Elliott A, Sargatal J (eds), 1996)
