Pelecanus erythrorhynchus

Regular N-S migration; all migration over land, at times over deserts or mountains, but avoiding long sea crossings. Arrives at most colonies Mar/Apr; after breeding, birds congregate at favourable sites, before departing S, mostly late Sept/Oct. Sedentary in S parts of range. Some non-breeders spend summer on wintering grounds. Populations breeding on unproductive alkaline lakes regularly commute over great distances for feeding.
