Populations of nominate race breeding in Chile and CW Argentina in spring and summer migrate across the
Andes to adjacent Tucuman and Catamarca (NW Argentina) in autumn and winter. For the northern race
peruviana there are so far only comparatively few breeding records from Ecuador, so it is still unclear whether
the species breeds there regularly; after mid-Sept there is an increase in the population which is probably due to a
migrant influx that might be correlated with Agave flowering. Apparently occurs only during Dec-Jan in SW
(Narino). (del Hoyo J, Elliott A, Sargatal J (eds), 1999)
