extent unclear |
Largely resident, but migratory in some regions. Status of some populations unclear, especially on Asian
mainland (demarcation on map between resident and seasonal occurrences is largely hypothetical). N
populations of erythrothorax move S to winter in S China (S of Yangtze R) and Indochina; this race is
summer breeding visitor to Japan (May-Oct), small numbers also wintering in S, in Sri Lanka numbers of
zeylonica augmented by migrants which arrive Oct-Nov and leave Mar-Apr. Probably resident throughout
Wallacean range; scarce winter visitor to Borneo. Race phaeopyga resident in Ryukyu Is. Vagrant to
Christmas I (Indian Ocean) with 2 specimen, Aug and Sept. (del Hoyo J, Elliott A, Sargatal J
