Considered resident in Neotropical portion of range, though irregular local movements occur on large scale
throughout; birds ringed as chicks in Santa Fe, NC Argentina, recovered in Rio Grande do Sul, SE Brazil, 1400
km to NE; stragglers to Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, and at 4300 m in Andes of Bolivia. N populations
disperse N after breeding, reaching S Canada, before migrating S to winter in S USA, Mexico and rarely C
America. Rare vagrant to Hawaii, though appears less prone to wandering over sea than P. falcinellus. Tends to
