Poorly known; pallidus possibly resident in N Peru; nominate probably sedentary in parts of range; but
migratory elsewhere. Birds breeding in high Andes migrate to lower altitudes after breeding season; those from
southernmost areas mostly migrate N in Mar-Apr to Ecuador; and SE Brazil, Uruguay and E Argentina,
returning late Aug to Sept. Absent from Islands off NC Chile and adjacent mainland Feb-May.
