Migration: intercontinental some non-breeders stay on wintering grounds

Verbreitungskarte von Limnodromus scolopaceus Migratory. Southward migration through North America in Jul-Oct; moves down Pacific cost, though many birds cross interior and along Atlantic coast up to New England; few birds follow W Pacific route and occur in Japan on passage. Juveniles migrate later than adults; females leave breeding area before males. Northward migration in Apr-May; more westerly than autumn route, mainly W of Mississippi and staging in Cheyenne Bottoms (Kansas). Some non-breeders spend summer in USA and Mexico.
