Many populations sedentary or slightly dispersive. E population (mongolicus) migrates to China and
India. Birds from Balkans disperse locally as far s R Danube. French and Spanish breeders disperse overland to
Atlantic and E along Mediterranean. Birds from N Africa disperse around Mediterranean. In recent years,
increasing numbers of birds breeding in SW Europe and the Mediterranean have moved N after breeding, fair
numbers now spending the winter in SE England and S coast of North Sea. (del Hoyo J, Elliott A,
