map about the distribution of Gazella cuvieri

“The range of Cuvier's gazelle extended throughout the mountain ranges and associated plateaux of the Maghreb, including localities at the Mediterranean and Atlantic coast.
It prefers dry forests of middle and low mountain slopes. The main present threat consists of forest destruction and expansion of pastureland. Poaching is still a problem locally, but the species is strictly protected throughout Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.
The Tunisian conservation program resulted in a significant population increase and aims at natural recolonisation of the historic range (Lafontaine et al. 1999). Migration behaviour is largely unknown, but seems to be limited to nomadism.”
