N American populations generally migratory, wintering S USA to N South America, and returning to colonies of
S USA in Mar-May; wintering population leaves Panama early Feb; some birds spend all year within nesting
range. Nominate race sedentary. Post-breeding dispersal in populations of N less marked than in other N
