Australia; passage migrant in small numbers through Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Micronesia and SE
Asia, Sept-Dec; migrant through E China Aug-Sept and Mar-Apr, where very abundant in Yangtze Valley;
arrives Australia mid-Sept to Oct. Scarcity of records between China and Non-breeding grounds suggests non-
stop flights between these two zones; recorded rather rarely in Indonesia. In Australia, shows erratic movements,
apparently moving in response to rainfall and temperature; occurrence in coastal areas often associated with
droughts or heatwaves. Birds may depart for Asia directly from inland areas, without visiting coast; leaves NW
Australia Feb-Apr, perhaps mostly mid-Mar; present C Mongolia, immediately S of breeding grounds, from late
