Siberian and North American birds migrate to South America, down Atlantic and Pacific coasts and through
highlands of Colombia and Ecuador, and lakes in W Amazonia. Small fraction of Siberian population winters in
Australasia and passes through Magadan, Commander Is, Kuril Is, Sakhalin, Ussuriland, Japan and Korea; on SE
Asian coast, not recorded farther than China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Males start S migration late Jun; females
to early Aug; juveniles migrate over broader range of N America early Aug and Oct. N migration Mar to early
Jun, farther W via interior North America, but avoiding W USA; high numbers stage at Cheyenne Bottoms
(Kansas). Regular on passage on Hawaiian, Phoenix and Line Is. Many 1st-year probably migrate N to breeding
