Most birds leave breeding site late Apr to Jun, a few leaving later, in Jul, and some overwintering in breeding
sites or other subantarctic locations if food is available; returns Oct-Nov. Migratory routes poorly known. Main
wintering grounds on shores of Falkland Is, Tierra del Fuego and S Patagonia. Some birds wander further N, e.g.
to Uruguay. Ship-assisted vagrants in Brazil, South Africa, St Helena and even Europe. (del Hoyo
