Present throughout year in many areas, but dispersive and nomadic during dry season. May wander widely in
severe droughts, when it can be seen virtually anywhere in Australia and Tasmania. Has reached New Zealand,
Auckland Is, Java, new Guinea and New Caledonia; apparently, sporadic breeding may occur after such
irruptions. (del Hoyo J, Elliott A, Sargatal J (eds), 1992)
