Verbreitungskarte von Himantopus novaezelandiae Sedentary in MacKenzie Basin with local movements of up to several kilometres, usually in autumn-winter to river delta of breeding valley, with birds returning to nesting area from late winter to early spring. A few birds spend autumn and winter at coastal lagoons, and especially estuaries, of North I; most of these are associated with, and may be paired with, individuals of H.himantopus or hybrids.   (del Hoyo J, Elliott A, Sargatal J (eds), 1996)
